What are the benifits of being able to read sheet music (vs tabs)?

my boyfriend is a musician who cant read sheet music, i feel like he should learn and he wants to but gets irritated at it... is it really that important to be able to do so,

the music he plays is written out in tabs and played by a program for him to hear... (tabit)

What are the benifits of being able to read sheet music (vs tabs)?theatre

As a teacher of music, I can tell you that sheet music is always superior to tabs. Most tabs are just "faking it" close but not note for note what is really being played. Now, I'm not saying that for all tabs, just most.

It is harder to find sheet music and very easy to find tabs, but that is because tabs are written by anybody and, as I stated previously, not as precise.

By reading sheet music it is easier to pick up other instruments. You will also gain respect of real musicians if you can read sheet music.

Tell him not to get discouraged and to keep learning. It WILL pay off.
